Job Found

Tomorrow I’ll go to work. I found a job, and it didn’t even take two months. I’m feeling pretty lucky.

Several weeks ago, a neighbor offered to introduce me to a friend of his, a partner at the whitest of white shoe law firms in Philadelphia. We chatted and we both realized that we were not made for each other. He didn’t want me for his firm because my background is too unusual. I didn’t want to work there because I didn’t want to be a gun for hire.

It wasn’t the right match, but we both enjoyed our chat and he suggested a few more people I should talk to at his firm. They suggested other people at different firms. Eventually I found someone who thought that my particular blend of experience was really cool. This particular individual owned a legal staffing firm, and he started pitching my resume all around the city. And voila, a job.

It’s a job that I feel good about, too. It is with a new class action firm that just broke away from a larger firm. I got a good feeling talking to my new boss. He has a public interest background and he wants to do well by doing good. He is hiring me and five other lawyers to work as temps in a document review project. Since he is just getting started in his new firm, he is looking to hire some of us permanently. Hopefully I will be one of the chosen. I got a good feeling from our interview and I think this could be a good place for me.

Starting tomorrow I will be bringing home the bacon and Josh will be taking care of Artemis full time. And did I mention that all of us are living with my parents? We are planning on staying here for a little while, at least until we know that I have a secure job. It is an unusual situation. I am hoping it works out well, or at least doesn’t cause any long term damage.
