Her Great-grandmother gave me a friend's old sewing machine, a neighbor gave me some green velvet curtain remnants and my mother gave me several hours of patient tutelage and labor. The costume was cobbled together at the last minute, give or take two weeks of planning. Fearing I wouldn't be up to the sewing, I looked in vain for a green jacket of any style (or shade.) I ended up being pretty pleased with my first sewn jacket (made the pattern myself), but I doubt you would feel the same. Somebody should market Babar costumes.

However, reading your comment got me thinking about it again. A quick Google confirmed there are plenty of jackets out there that could stand in for Babar's suit. It's just that they're all being sold to leprechaun wannabes. Check out leprechaun costumes. There are plenty available online in kids' sizes. Happy Halloween. Let us know how it turns out.

Amazing costume! Flashforward October 2010: Isabel is hoping to be Babar for halloween if her mom can her act together. I am therefore googling Babar Halloween costume and came upon Artemis! Unfortunately, I'm having some trouble finding the green suit. Any tips on where you found yours? (or better yet, did you want to sell it if the size is right? 2T or 3T?) Cheers!
